Montreal’s Gem: Folk Alliance International Conference 37th Edition Continues

According to FAI (short for Folk Alliance International), Folk is more than just a genre of music.
Its latest conference, the 37th version, is due to take place from February 19 – 23, 2025 at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montréal, Québec, Canada.
In its effort to truly amplify its impact, FAI must first replenish its creative wellsprings.

Musician artists announced to perform include Alex Wong, Sauljaljui, Bella’s Bartok, Betty Soo, Jasmine Netsena and many more.
In its effort to present the best talent that folk music has to offer, a jury of international experts have selected 160 applicants to represent diverse cultures, languages and sound in its official showcases which will be held at Le Centre Sheraton Montral Hotel during the conference period.

Applicants apply to perform at FAI’s official showcase in May and June last year (2024).

It’s a huge milestone for Sauljaljui to be selected to perform at the 37th Folk Alliance International (FAI) event.

As the first Taiwanese artist to perform there, Sauljaljui will once again introduce the rich heritage of the Paiwan people through her voice, melodies, and unique musical styles, all with a deep sense of pride and confidence in her culture.

Montreal’s Cultural & Creative Economy
Montréal is renowned for its vibrant arts and culture scene. In 2006, it earned the UNESCO City of Design designation.

The city boasts a year-round cultural calendar filled with globally attended festivals and events.
In winter, Montréal en lumière stands out as one of the world’s largest winter festivals, while summer features the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, both drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Internationally, Montréal is recognised for its circus industry and community, with approximately 2,000 people passing through the Cité des Arts du Cirque daily, a hub dedicated to contemporary circus study and performance.

At the heart of the city’s cultural offerings lies the Quartier des Spectacles cultural district. Formerly Montréal’s red-light area, it now houses 85 institutional and cultural partners, including performance venues, museums, galleries, cinemas, and cultural centres, along with a series of outdoor public spaces.
This area supports 450 cultural businesses and over 7,000 creative workers. In addition to this central hub, Montréal is prioritising cultural development and investment at the neighbourhood level through its Cultural Neighbourhoods program and Montréal’s Maisons de la Culture Network.
The city is also revitalising libraries into mixed-use cultural centres throughout the city.
