Astro is celebrating the year of the Water Tiger here in Malaysia with the UHUU2022 Chinese New Year campaign already well underway. With an extensive list of programs already being scheduled over the course of a three-week time frame, Astro will be featuring not only original song releases but also launching exclusive merchandise, announcing exciting partnerships and premiering signature content. However, this cannot really happen if music isn’t part of the campaign.
In order to give an atmospheric boost to the festivities, Astro has released an album of Chinese New Year tunes – an annual release that began fifteen years ago. These classic tunes mixing Mandarin, Bahasa, and Tamil would have eventually earwormed their way into every household by the time Chap Goh Meh arrives.
Merging the efforts of nearly a hundred Malaysian artistes, singers and hosts, Astro collaborated with Multimedia Entertainment to produce a six-track CNY album titled UHuu Jia-Ba-Jin CNY Album. Its theme song features around sixty performers from Astro, including its radio brands MY, Melody and Goxuan.

Having celebrated the last two Chinese New Years, virtually, the annual celebration has taken on a more cognizant state; a more grounded version that carries an encouraging message. For Malaysians, it is all about looking forward to a renewing spirit of the UHuu, or simply the tiger, an animal in the Chinese horoscope that signifies persistence and strength.
Talking of persistence, Astro has shown true grit in how it has monopolised the paid television market in Malaysia since 1996. Its operations as a satellite television and radio provider continue to evolve and expand today. In June 2021, in its quest to aggregate on-demand content, Astro announced its collaboration with Netflix and Disney. These two join existing brands includng HBO Go (U.S.A) and iQIYI (China).
