Jay Chou, BTS, and Tulus Among Most Streamed Asian Artists

– K-Clique lead Malaysia’s most popular local artist, followed by Faizal Tahir and Siti Nurhaliza; Singapore’s favorites from the Mandarin scene, JJ Lin and Stephanie Sun reign.

– Drake amassed 28 billion streams worldwide, is named the most streamed artist of the decade, while Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You, with 2.3 billion plays, is most streamed song.

Spotify’s latest feature “Wrapped” and “A Decade Wrapped” is allowing its users, all 248 million of them, a bird’s eye view of their very own favorite numbers over the course of 2019 an the last decade.

Malaysia and Singapore’s Spotify users seemed to be sharing similar favorites for 2019. With BTS , Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande being the top favorites, Malaysia listeners prefer Khalid and Post Malone over Jay Chou and JJ Lin in Singapore as their most streamed artists, respectively.

With over 3 billion streams, BTS has set an omnipresent eminence worldwide with its latest hit Boy With Luv, featuring Halsey – is Spotify’s most streamed k-pop track globally.

Ariana Grande’s prominence relied on her gratitude and positive message on her fifth studio album Thank You, Next, ranked third most streamed album globally, as well as in Malaysia. In the meantime, Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello’s Senorita, with over 1 billion streams, is the most streamed track globally, beating BTS’ Boy With Luv, Post Malone’s Sunflower, and Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings.

Hip hop and rap group K-Clique topped the Most Streamed Artist in Malaysia. With hits such a Mimpi, Sah Tu Satu, Lane Lain Line and Licik, the eight-member group beats Faizal Tahir, Siti Nurhaliza, SonaOne and Insomniacks.

Known for their prominence in the Chinese Mandarin music scene, leading first and second is JJ Lin and Stephanie as Singapore’s most streamed local artists, respectively. New artist Jasmine Sokko fluttered the local scene, leading on third and followed by Tanya Chua and Gentle Bones.

Another big player in the region, Indonesia sees its very own talent Tulus and Fiersa Besari take fourth and fifth place, in most streamed artists in Indonesia, after BTS, Alan Walker and Ed Sheeran. Other local talent topping the local favorites include Sheila On 7, Andmesh and Glenn Fredly at third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

With over 113 million paying subscribers, Spotify, who swapped a minority share of nine percent with Tencent in 2017, remains indisputably the world’s biggest player in music streaming. Apple Music, its chief antagonist, ruffled the end-of-year landscape up with new promotional campaign awarding Eilish artist of the year, album of the year and songwriter of the year (shares collaboration with brother, Finneas). Lizzo was named breakthrough artist, and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road, song of the year.
