Jacob Arabo is one in a million when it comes to creating gaudy timepieces, the ones that take your breath away. Blending the Swiss mechanical prowess of watchmaking and music boxes, Arabo’s latest Opera collection by New York-based luxury jewelry and watch brand Jacob & Co., has one last element to put into the final touches: to include Nino Rota’s Golden Globe winning score from Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning 1972 film The Godfather.

A stunning feat of persistence goes into turning this idea into reality as the watch was required Paramount Pictures to probe into its licensing matters, which owns the rights to the film and its score.

While the whole process took a year, it didn’t stop Jacob & Co. from exhibiting the original watch at the Baselworld Swiss watch fair in March 2018 — before the rights had been acquired. The agreement was concluded after financial arrangements were agreed by both companies.

The official licensing includes the inclusion of The Godfather logo. The watch also plays 120 notes of Rota’s score, played subsequently with the press of a clicker at the 2 o’clock position.

Pricing on the Opera Godfather watches range from approximately $330,000 for the titanium version to $360,000 for the rose gold; each style is limited to 88 pieces. And comes with a case crafted of a domed sapphire crystal embellished by 18-carat rose gold or titanium.
