Madonna released her first single Medellin from her latest album Madame X three weeks ago. And since then, it has been an uphill hike, stream count wise.
On April 24, Madonna exclusively unveiled the world premier of her video and single “Medellín” with Maluma, during a globally televised MTV music event, “MTV Presents Madonna Live & Exclusive: ‘Medellín’ Video World Premiere”.
The 30-minute special debuted across MTV’s digital platforms and linear channels in nearly 180 countries.
Madonna joined British DJ Trevor Nelson and fans live from London for a conversation about the influences of her new album, and the creative forces behind her transcendent career.
She also took questions during the global event via satellite from MTV’s Sway Calloway and fans in New York City, Milan and São Paulo. “Medellín” collaborator and Global Latin Superstar Maluma joined live from Miami.
Ahead of Madonna’s 14th studio album release due for June 14, the first track from Madame X, “Medellin” has already gained over 21 million and 14 million views and plays on YouTube and Spotify, respectively.
“I found my tribe there and a magical world of incredible musicians that reinforced my belief that music across the world is truly all connected and is the soul of the universe.”
— Madonna, on her latest album “Madame X”.
Influenced creatively by living in Lisbon, Portugal over the past several years, Madame X is a collection of 15 new songs that celebrate Madonna’s career-long affair with Latin music and culture as well as other global influences.
Highlights on the album include “Medellín,” which was co-produced by Mirwais and captures the spirit of Maluma’s hometown, the anthemic song “I Rise,” the Jamaican dancehall vibes of “Future” featuring Quavo, and co-produced by Diplo, as well as the sonically innovative Mirwais produced “Dark Ballet.”
Recorded over 18 months in Portugal, London, New York and Los Angeles, Madonna collaborated with longtime producer Mirwais, as well as with producers Mike Dean and Diplo, among others.
“Lisbon is where my record was born,” said Madonna. “I found my tribe there and a magical world of incredible musicians that reinforced my belief that music across the world is truly all connected and is the soul of the universe.”
Globally, the release is being handled by Live Nation, Interscope Records [Universal Music] and Maverick. Madame X album will come in a standard and deluxe version of the album.
Madonna and MTV have shared a history starting with the early premieres of the pop superstar’s boundary-pushing music videos. Madonna has been honored with 24 MTV awards between the “MTV Video Music Awards” and the “MTV EMAs.”
Additionally, it was at the inaugural VMAs where the pop icon graced the stage in a wedding dress to perform, “Like a Virgin,” in her first major award show performance.
“Madonna and MTV have been intrinsically tied since their respective youths.”
“As Madonna continues to rule the world, we’re thrilled to be with her once again from our Camden studios to world premiere her incredible collaboration with Maluma,
‘Medellín.’”
