MTV Asia celebrates the explosion of hip hop culture through an Asian lens on music, fashion and lifestyle this April by kicking off a 10-part series Asian version of the iconic hip hop show “YO! MTV Raps”.

The show is hosted by some of Asia’s leading hip hop influencers including rappers Joe Flizzow and Zamaera; songwriter Yung Raja; joined by global DJ, producer Kim Lee.

Korean rappers and producer Gray and Woo have been selected for the opening night with highlights to include “YO! Check In”, a segment that covers the boom of the Asian hip hop scene in the USA, featuring Asian-American guest stars Jay Park and Dumbfoundead .

“Rise of Asia” reveals the evolution of hip hop in parts of Asia; and “YO! Dance Floor” showcases the latest dance moves. More intimate segments include hanging out with the artists in “Rappers in Cars”; delve into the lives and careers of artists in “YO! Rappers”; and connect with up-close stories in “YO! Real Talk”.

Malaysian rapper Joe Flizzow embraces the ‘Cypher Boss’ title to host a high-octane Cypher featuring four rappers from across the region in each episode.

The pilot episode aired as part of the “YO!” special June last year — a 5-artist Cypher video, featuring 11 Asian hip hop artists from Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand — garnered over 1.3 million vidoe views. And consequently, won the ‘Best Music or Dance Programme’ at the Asian Academy Creative Awards in December 2018.

The show premieres on April 15, 2019, Monday, at 7pm [WIB], 8pm [SG/PH] and 9pm [MY]. Encore at 10.20pm [WIB], 11.20pm [SG/PH] and 12.20am [April 16 – MY]. Available also on MTV Play app.
