Sophie Jian has been appointed as Senior Vice President, Finance and Operations, Warner Music Asia.

In her new role, Jian will be based in Warner Music’s Hong Kong office and report to Simon Robson, President, Warner Music Asia. She replaces Gary Smerdon, who is moving internally to work in a new international role for Warner Music Group.

Jian will work alongside the region’s five-strong senior management team alongside Calvin Wong, President, SE Asia, Hong Kong and Korea, and EVP Marketing, Warner Music Asia; Carmus Chan, Human Resources Director, Warner Music Asia; Cora Lam, SVP, Legal and Business Affairs, Greater China and South East Asia; and Robson.

“I’m super excited to be joining the most progressive music company in Asia. As a long time music fan, it’s a dream come true to work for a company that represents such amazing artists,” said Sophie Jian.

Simon Robson adds: “Sophie’s got the entrepreneurial can-do attitude that we foster at Warner Music and I’m delighted she’s joined the team.  Finance departments are often the unsung heroes in music companies, it’s vital for our artists that we get the right leadership there just as much as we do in our A&R and marketing teams.”

Prior to joining the Warner team in Asia, she had her fair share working at major global firms including Bloomberg Media Group, Standard Chartered Banking Group, General Electric and NBC Universal. Her latest stint saw her as Commercial Advisor and Head of International Strategy at Tallysticks, a financial technology startup that facilitates international trade.
