Car racer turned radio show host and DJ – Mackenzie Johnson a.k.a MAKJ – has recently released his latest single ‘Too Far Gone’ featuring folk and rock singer-songwriter Matthew Santos. Returning to his hip-hop and pop roots, this single marks another chapter in Johnson’s career as touring artists. The sound hones in a sense of nostalgia and melodically embellished by Matthew Santos’ hip vocals with an Acid Jazz moment from Sandals’ ‘The Profound Gas’.
There’s no excuse to learning a new craft and since returning to the U.S. from China as a car racer, Johnson took up the challenge and basically taught himself the art of turning tables (we do not mean it literally, of course). His passion led him to join the Los Angeles’ Icon Collective production school and learnt only from the master of masters DJ, the legendary DJ AM.
Since then, there’s no stop to his awesomeness when he launched his series of singles collaborating with some of the hottest names in the DJ and EDM world. He had worked with Hardwell (‘Countdown’), Lil Jon (Let’s Get Fucked Up’), the Bassjackers (‘Derp’) and Andrew W.K. and Timmy Trumpet (‘Party Till We Die’).
Johnson has played at some of the largest and most prestigious music festivals in the world, including Coachella, Voodoo, Electric Zoo, and Ultra, and he maintains a residency at the Wynn Las Vegas.
