We are so excited to announce Konserku‘s very first concert in Malaysia – the Cyberjaya Music Festival – slated to take place at Cyberjaya on the 25 November. Konserku has been actively promoting concerts in Indonesia through crowdfunding and has made its first move to organise a festival event at Cyberjaya this year-end highlighting some of Asia’s upcoming talent.
While these artists may not be on the mainstream radar this year, they have been secretly garnering some hardcore fans worldwide. Pastel Lite, a Kuala Lumpur-based experimental electronic duo, announced their return to the local music scene July this year when they released their first full-length album, Balada, a 10-track album that itself is a showcase of Malaysia’s homegrown producers and musicianship skills. The tart lyrics on ‘Damsel’, introduces its audiences to the album that stories harsh and toxic relationships all in balmy synths and echoing electric guitars.
Famous for its anthemic melancholic sounds, Lightcraft joins the line-up to stir some of the highs and downs of life’s emotional turmoils. Lightcraft has performed at South Korea’s largest music festival – Zandari Festa; and also SXSW in Austin, Texas. This 5-member band regularly performs in the region and have garnered a rather selective Indie fanbase in Indonesia, regionally and internationally.
Jakarta based Indie Rockers, Protocal Afro is a six-piece guitar group famously known for their ‘anthemic and catchy alternative pop. Their music is catchy and rock-poppish tunes resonate the 80s synth sounds with strong bold and strong vocals. We would say quirky and fun. But of course, you have to come and dance along to approve.
We came to notice Youth Portal when they first garnered Time Out KL’s Top 30 Tracks of 2015 for their single ‘Draft’. Their songs focus on the processes of change and although you may wanna feel a little more emphatic towards their feelings, and in spite o their modest online following, they’ve already earned a mention from DIIV on Twitter and we all just have to love their dreamy instrumentation in ‘Loop’.
Previously known as Take Two, m1ldl1fe has not only recently launched their single ‘Distractions’but has put some of their favourite sounds into showmanship performing regularly in Malaysia and their home city Singapore. Their personalities stand out in this new sonic landscape and are the culmination of exactly how they have termed themselves as the upcoming “indie-rock, Casio-post-punk revival” band. They caught our attention after first making waves by winning the coveted Noise Singapore 2014 Music Mentorship Programme.
Other noteworthy artists performing at the festival include Jakarta-born of Indonesian and Japanese descents Mondo Gascaro, Jakarta’s punk indie trio Vague, Indonesian soundtrack pro Andre Harihandoyo & Sonic People, one-woman Malaysian band The Venopian Solitude, and ‘gritty’ math rock band a.k.a Fugazi of Malaysia a.k.a Killeur Calculateur.
