Mystic Story, a subsidiary label of K-pop powerhouse S.M. Entertainment, recently revealed its first girl group, Billlie, in early November.

The six-piece act — consisting of four South Korean members, Moon Sua, Suhyeon, Haram and Siyoon, and two Japanese, Tsuki and Haruna — was introduced to the K-pop scene launching their first EP “The Billage of Perception: Chapter One.”

Ahead of their mini-album release, the group performed a debut showcase in Seoul, live-streamed to its audience as a safety measure due to the pandemic.

The group garnered much attention ahead of its debut as the first girl group assembled at the hands of South Korea’s star singer-songwriter and producer Yoon Jong-shin.

The members initially belonged to the pre-debut group called Mystic Rookies, a group of talented artists nurtured through the label’s “Mystic Incubation Camp” training system.

Not entirely a favourite name among the K-pop scene, their group name combines the English name Billie with an extra “l.” An expression which they described reflects their “B-sides”, which means the greater part of their inner-self.

Their latest EP, titled ‘Ring X Ring’, tells a magical narrative around a made-up village. Characters in this universe stand up boldly in the face of difficulty and reward those who dare to make positive change.

Billlie’s EP debut is highly anticipated among the industry executive due to the participation of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. They include lyricist Kim Eana, composer Lee Min-su and music video director Hwang Su-ah.

While the three Korean artists all have their own extensive careers, they have jointly created popular hits, including IU’s “Good Day” and “The Red Shoes” and Brown Eyed Girls’ “Abracadabra” and “Candy Man.”

Their six-track album also includes “Flipp!ng a Coin,” “Flowerld,” “The Eleventh Day,” “Everybody’s Got a $ECRET” and “The Rumor”.

The music for the track ‘The Eleventh Day’ is jointly produced by Malaysian producers Audi Mok, Izham Omar and Tilla Hanna. Listen to the song here.

Billlie’s most recent set of concept photos include a new member – Sheon (former ‘Girls Planet 999’ contestant Kim Su Yeon), ahead of their upcoming single release titled ‘The Collective Soul and Unconscious: Snowy Night’ scheduled for 14th December.

The K-pop scene, in the meantime, is seeing a slew of new girl groups, including StayC, Purple Kiss, Tri.Be and bugAboo, not to mention those set to debut, such as Starship Entertainment’s IVE, also set for launch in December.
