Music Of The Week: Ludovico Einaudi’s Endless Summer
It is hard to look away when our inboxes mentions the Italian pianist and composer, Ludovico Einaudi.
This week, apart from the many music that came into the Music Press Asia’s office, we had the pleasure to re-listen Einaudi’s live recording of his performance at the Steve Jobs Theatre in 2019.
We recommend a full listen on a walk or when you are practically relaxing.
The official concert film, realistically, is magical and ignites a soothing sense of wonder.
And most importantly, the pianist who once appeared on an iceberg with a grand Steinway, has announced the release of his 17th solo album The Summer Portraits in January 2025.
The video to the first single Rose Bay contains private archive footage from Einaudi’s own childhood holidays.
Set to release on 31 January 2025 by Decca.
We listened to the teaser instrumental single Rose Bay and Pathos already released on YouTube. Click here to listen.
Last year, Einaudi took a villa on a Mediterranean island and found the house to be decorated with 30 or 40 beautiful oil paintings clearly made by the same hand.
Upon investigation, he discovered the story of a woman who owned the house and spent every summer there with her family. She used to create new paintings every summer and leave them in the house.
With Deutschen Grammophon, he speaks on the inspirations behind his newest work.
“And I thought that everyone has their own version of the summer portraits,” — Ludovico Einaudi
“I started to think at my summers, the time where my life was strictly connected with all my senses, where the days felt like months and months like years, and I was free from morning to night, and every day was a new discovery of life, and nature was a fundamental part of it, we were nature.”
“A beautiful season connected with the best moments of our lives. So, I started to make my own paintings with music. This album is dedicated to all our endless summers memories, all our beautiful moments.”
