Malaysian Appointed Chairman of IFPI APAC IFPI Asia-Pacific Regional Board has recently appointed Dato’ Norman Abdul Halim, Executive President and Group Chief Executive Officer of KRU Group as the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Board of International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the organisation representing the recording industry worldwide.
IFPI Asia-Pacific Regional Board has recently appointed Dato’ Norman Abdul Halim, Executive President and Group Chief Executive Officer of KRU Group as the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Board of International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the organisation representing the recording industry worldwide.
Dato’ Norman Halim is the Executive President and Group Chief Executive Officer of KRU Group, a leading media and entertainment company in Malaysia. As part of the Malaysian pop group KRU in 1992, he alongside his two brothers, found fame before starting KRU Music in 1996. KRU Group organically grew to become an integrated and diversified company actively involved in the film, music, advertising and education industries.
Dato’ Norman, the head of an independent record label, serves as the first Malaysian to hold the distinguished Asia-Pacific leadership position taking over the role as Chairman, which rotates every two years. Previously the position was held by Denis Handlin AM, Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia.
“It is a truly a great honour to be elected as the new Chairman of the IFPI Asia-Pacific Regional Board. Denis and his predecessors have left a great legacy and I will in my best endeavour continue to strengthen ties and collaboration amongst independent labels in the Asia-Pacific region, with the strong support that I have been getting from the major record companies. I also hope IFPI will continue to foster positive relationships with governments throughout the region for the betterment of the music industry at large,” said Dato’ Norman.
IFPI Asia-Pacific Regional Board, established in 1994 with membership comprises of 1,300 major and independent companies in 60 countries, has the mission to promote the value of recorded music, campaign for the rights of record producers and expand the commercial uses of recorded music in all markets where its members operate.
