YUJA WANG (piano) and Kurt Masur (conductor) released music composed by Verbier Festival GOLD and Deutsche Grammaphon.

The second Verbier Festival Gold release features Yuja Wang in an all-Mendelssohn album with two performances from 2009. The album distributed by DG Records features the composer’s first piano concerto with Kurt Masur conducting the Verbier Festival Orchestra, followed by the Piano Sextet in D Major.

Piano Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 25, MWV O7
Piano Sextet in D Major, Op. 110, MWV Q16

Verbier Festival Gold aims to release a new recording every month. The exclusive licensing and distribution partnership marks a special moment between the Verbier Festival and Deutsche Grammophon, solidifying a relationship between organisations that has already enjoyed many successful collaborations over the years, including audio releases of marquee performances, film offerings from the Virtual Festival in 2020, and a ‘25 Years of Excellence’ anniversary edition in 2018.

Just a few weeks ago, Yuja Wang performed to an audience playing Royal Festival Hall, London. She dedicated her appearance to the memory of Radu Lupu. According to Andrew Clements from The Guardian, who saw her play Beethoven and Scriabin, said: “Technically everything was dazzling, every detail crisp and perfectly articulated, with chords exactly weighted and precisely placed. It was all thoroughly musical, too, never heartless or mechanical, but brilliance and accuracy still often seemed to matter more to Wang than conveying a real sense of what the music was about.”

On Star Wars Day (4 May) in the Hollywood legend’s 90th birthday year, Deutsche Grammophon announced that John Williams in Vienna has gone gold in Germany. DG marks May the Fourth with an exclusive animated video in collaboration with the popular Japanese manga Blue Orchestra, and DG Stage is currently streaming John Williams & the Berliner Philharmoniker’s – The Berlin Concert. Tickets are available on DG’s official website.
