Co-directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the film is an exhilarating and ambitious expedition circling the multiverse. We see Malaysian-born Hollywood actress Michelle Yeoh travels from one reality to the other in a thrilling sci-fi frolic that ultimately still reminds you that back taxes, a marriage on the rocks and a strained relationship with a daughter are items that you juggle with no matter how life is outside of reality.

Collectively known as Daniels, Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are a filmmaking duo best known for their music videos, including the popular DJ Snake promotional for the single Turn Down for What. In 2016, they expanded to feature film, writing and directing the movie Swiss Army Man, starring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, for which the duo received the Directing Award at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

In 2017, it was announced that Daniels would direct a then-unnamed sci-fi film, produced by the Russo Brothers’ company. The film has since been titled Everything Everywhere All at Once.

[Michelle Yeoh starred in Everything Everywhere All at Once co-directed by the same director who produced Lil Jon and DJ Snake’s MV ‘Turn Down for What’]

The Rick and Morty-fied spin of the story reminds us of the music video for Lil Jon and DJ Snake’s sextuple-platinum titled Turn Down for What, a physical force that possesses the pelvises of Sunita Mani and Daniel Kwan. Unrestrained and with such intensity expressed through repeatedly blasting through the floor of a high-rise apartment complex. This may seem mild to the sense of humour at play in the Daniels latest feature film – Everything Everywhere All at Once – a sort of martial arts epic within a metaphysical world that makes sai knives almost insignificant, powerless.

How many movies can you feature Jamie Lee Curtis as a wacky tax auditor, Goonies/Temple of Doom MVP Ke Huy Quan as a man who can turn a fanny pack into a deadly weapon and a bagel that can snuff out all existence?

The band Son Lux composed the musical score. The 49-track soundtrack is to be released on April 8, 2022 by A24 Music, and includes collaborations with Mitski, David Byrne, a flute-playing André 3000, Randy Newman, Moses Sumney, and yMusic, plus others. Everything Everywhere All at Once was recently world-premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) on March 11, 2022. The film is produced by A24, the studio behind MOONLIGHT, LADY BIRD, EX MACHINA, THE WITCH, EIGHTH GRADE, HEREDITARY, THE FAREWELL, UNCUT GEMS, MINARI & more.

Daniel Kwan is also known to have co-founded the group We Direct Music Videos (W.D.M.V.), described as “a global community of music video directors who are committed to sustainable directorial labor practices”.
