If you haven’t yet heard of the new hip hop wave in China, then let us introduce you to the latest album release ‘Black Cab’ by Higher Brothers. While it may not seem to be viral in other parts of Asia, we would like to salute to the courage and creativity of Higher Brothers as the new wave of artists. Directly engaging with fans, they also used WeChat , one of China’s largest social media application founded by Tencent to record an entire music video titled ‘WeChat’ – with savvy editing of course. Featuring previously released single “Bitch Don’t Kill My Dab,” and others, the high energy album rarely sits still. The production is consistently great, and each of the members brings a distinct flair to their rapping.

While it may seem that everyone else is producing and writing music, some took another step further by engaging with audience through the new wave of visual entertainment maximising YouTube, Vimeo and other online platforms to gain exposure and…world monopoly. It may seem like an exaggeration but nothing is too big of an idea if you are talking about the social platforms that are part of the worldwide population’s daily television.
To all artists and musicians out there, we cannot stress more the power of online social media such as YouTube and Facebook. The daily development in AI technology that goes behind these videos that you scroll using the tip of your fingers are some of the fastest and most creative innovation our generation have seen so far. Their full album ‘Black Cab’ is now available on Spotify, iTunes, and SoundCloud. Their latest concert set for 6 August at the rooftop of Hung To Centre in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong has already sold out months before.
