Chloe Chua Debuts Vivaldi and Locatelli Album with Singapore Symphony Orchestra
Rising Singaporean star violinist Chloe Chua makes her recording debut with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Locatelli’s Harmonic Labyrinth.
The album begins Chloe’s international recording career. With Four Seasons, she revisits a piece close to her heart. The violinist’s performance of “Winter” won her the joint-first prize at the 2018 Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists. At 16 years old, SSO’s youngest Artist-In-Residence’s evident techniques and stage charisma see her sharing the stage regularly with world-class ensembles.
“Recording the Four Seasons is a dream come true for me. I grew up listening to classical music and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was one of the pieces that my mum would often play on her CD player at home. It brings back fond memories of my time at the Menuhin Competition in 2018, when I played my favourite season, Winter, with the wonderful Orchestre de Chambre de Genève in the magnificent Victoria Hall in Geneva. Playing through the complete Four Seasons makes me feel as if I have lived in Italy for a year, experiencing the changing weather, the activities unique to every season, and living the joys and sorrows of it all alongside its people. It is very meaningful to me,” says Chloe.
Managing Director of Pentatone, Sean Hickey, commented: “Pentatone is very pleased to work with the stellar violinist Chloe Chua and the renowned Singapore Symphony Orchestra, combining a vibrant young talent at the start of what promises to be a thrilling career, with an orchestra that has a long and established recording history. Chloe’s debut recording of Vivaldi and Locatelli is sure to attract a lot of attention, and we look forward to developing this singular talent and supporting her growth.”
Issued on music label Pentatone, the recording will be available in physical CD and digital formats for streaming and high-resolution downloads on Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube Music and Qobuz. Both formats are set to launch on 10 March, with the physical CD available for purchase at these avenues: Pentatone’s e-store, SSO’s Shopify store, SSO’s merchandise cart, and major CD stores from around the world.
On 31 March and 1 April, Chloe Chua Plays Mozart 3 will see Chloe coming together with Music Director Hans Graf and the SSO for her third and final performance of this season. Alongside her Mozart cycle, an immensely popular Violin Concerto No. 3, Chloe will also play Schumann’s Manfred Overture and Symphony No. 4 in D minor, Op. 120.
