On Wednesday (27/April), Warner Music China announced that one of the most legendary musical icons in Greater China has joined its roster.

According to the deal with Warner Music, CoCo will be working on a wide range of opportunities including new music, live entertainment shows, television and streaming programs as well as brand deals. The Mandopop audience will also be seeing new music from CoCo this coming summer. She will also appear on Hunan TV’s new music program ShengShengBuXi.

I’m so happy to join Warner Music. They have an amazing team, and I am excited to work with them on my new music and other goals. After taking a few years off, I am so happy to be back. I feel like I have so much to say in my new songs. I can’t wait to release new music into the world,” said CoCo Lee.

CoCo Lee was the first Chinese singer to break into the American market and her English single ‘Do You Want My Love’ made it into the Billboard Top 100. Her hit song ‘A Love Before Time’, released in 2000, was composed by Tan Dun and performed by Yo-Yo Ma for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, a film directed by Ang Lee. The success led to the release of over 15 albums and garnered tens of millions in physical sales.

CoCo Lee is also known as the voice who sang “Reflection”, a song she sang for Walt Disney Pictures’ animation film, Mulan, in 1998. Twenty years after when the film was remade for release in 2020, she sang the song once again in Mandarin alongside Christina Aguilera (English), Lee Suhyun (Korean), and for the Indonesian market covered by Yura Yunita, SIVIA, Agatha Pricilla, and Nadin Amizah.

She performed with The Black Eyed Peas at a pre-Grammy charity concert in Los Angeles, and was the first Chinese artist to perform at an NBA game.

Jonathan Serbin, Co-President of Warner Music Asia, stated: “We are delighted to welcome CoCo Lee to the Warner Music family. As one of the most influential Chinese artists of all time, we are honoured to work with her on the next phase of her career. Already a massive star across Greater China and loved by the diaspora around the globe, we are excited to help bring her music to the widest audience possible.”

“CoCo Lee is a true artist where her beautiful voice has influenced hundreds of millions of music fans across the region. We are excited to work with her to release amazing new music, and explore a wide range of opportunities, both in China and beyond.”

Sherry Tan, Managing Director of Warner Music China.

Warner Music China is home to artists including Tia Ray, Kelly Yu, Fiona Sit, Vava, and Lizzy Wang.
