The duo from Versailles has been the leading figures in the late 90s’ electronica boom when their debut album Moon Safari, including the single “Sexy Boy” and “Kelly Watch The Stars” shot to success in 1998.
Other successes followed and saw the release of The Virgin Suicides – scored purposely to Sofia Coppola’s first movie of the same name. Other album releases include 10 000 Hz Legend, Everybody Hertz, Talkie Walkie, Pocket Symphony, Love 2, Le voyage dans la lune and teaming up with Gordon Tracks for “Playground Love”.
Air has collaborated with Coppola on numerous film. While Brian Reitzell, a former member of Redd Kross were putting together the soundtrack to Coppola’s film – Lost in Translation (2003), the duo contributed one original track titled “Alone in Kyoto” from the Walkie Talkie album. In Marie Antoinette, Coppola also featured one of Air’s track – “II Secondo Giorno”.
Heavily inspired by classical composers to present electronic music, Air’s most pioneering sounds come from the influences of psychedelic and progressive rock including Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, as well as, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Maurice Ravel the French classical romantic composer.
AIR returned in 2016 with its latest career-spanning “Twentyears”, a compilation of their most beloved tracks and rarities throughout the two decades of AIR. The debut performance in Singapore is promoted by Secret Sounds Asia.
