Best of ASEAN Performing Arts 2025: Planting the Seeds of Cultural Leadership

As Malaysia prepares to take the ASEAN Chair in 2025, Kuala Lumpur is set to become the stage for a vibrant celebration of youth, creativity, and Southeast Asia’s shared cultural heartbeat.

The Best of ASEAN Performing Arts (BoAPA) 2025, themed “ASEAN Cultural Seed: Nurturing Cultural Leaders,” will gather 22 young talents — aged 7 to 13 — from across the region for a week-long journey of artistic exchange and discovery. Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and the Malaysian Association of Artistic Children (MAAC), the event will take place from 22–29 October 2025, with its grand launch on 25 October at Auditorium Seri Angkasa, Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur.

Far from a typical arts workshop, BoAPA 2025 is a dynamic space where traditional dance meets modern movement, where folk rhythms blend with contemporary beats, and where ASEAN’s youngest performers learn that culture isn’t just inherited — it’s created.

This initiative underscores Malaysia’s belief that nurturing the next generation of artists is key to protecting and reimagining ASEAN’s diverse heritage. Through hands-on workshops, cross-cultural performances, and mentorship, BoAPA 2025 hopes to grow young voices into future cultural leaders who will continue to shape the region’s creative identity.

In the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, the programme celebrates sustainability, inclusivity, and shared prosperity — values that remind us that the arts remain one of the region’s most powerful bridges of unity.
