Starting this 20 April 2023, Dr David Chin will be conducting six 75-minute sessions to explore choral-orchestral masterpieces covering an extensive range from the Baroque era to the 20th century in the Western classical music canon: Messiah, Mass in B Minor, The Creation, Missa Solemnis, A German Requiem, and War Requeim.
The course will cover key musical elements of the works mentioned and general development of musical styles from the 1700s-1960s.

David Chin is the founder and Artistic Director of Bachfest Malaysia, and the conductor of the award-winning Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra. He has recently been appointed as a Senior Fellow of Bach-Archiv Leipzig.
In addition to Malaysia and the United States, David has been invited to teach and perform in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, and Italy. He has conducted all the major works and more than three dozens of cantatas by J.S. Bach. In addition, he has led choirs and orchestras around the world in numerous major works by composers ranging from the Renaissance era to the 21st century and world-premieres, a capella to choral-orchestral works, and standard repertoire to vocal jazz and Broadway musicals.
David has served as Director of Choral Activities and Music Professor at multiple universities in the United States. He holds both Master’s and Doctoral degrees in conducting from the Eastman School of Music.
In 2024, he will lead a concert tour in East Malaysia conducting multiple performances of Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, and leading the Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra to perform Bach’s cantatas at the St. Thomas Church in Germany during Bachfest Leipzig.
