Mark Chia, a 9-year-old participant from Singapore has been awarded joint second prize at the 2022 Piccolo Violino Magico Competition @piccoloviolino.
Giancarlo Guarino conducts the Final Round of the competition with the FVG Orchestra as Mark performs the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26. Mark shares the second prize with 13-year-old violinist Sofia Demetriades (UK) and 13-year-old violinist Juan José Peña Aguirre (Switzerland/Colombia). The Final Round performances saw Sofia perform the third movement from Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor, Op. 61. And Juan, Kreisler’s Recitativo and Scherzo Caprice, Op. 6.
11-year-old violinist Edna Unseld from Switzerland has been awarded first prize at the 2022 Piccolo Violino Magico Competition, which took place in San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy. She performs Paganini Caprice No. 16 in the Final Round of the competition.
Winning the competition means that Edna will receive €5,000, an instrument made by contemporary Italian violin maker Fabio Piagentini, and a number of important concert engagements.
In 2021, Edna won the 3rd prize at the International Leonid Kogan Competition in Brussels and played under the direction of Gilbert Varga with the “Pannon Philharmonic” Orchestra in memorial concerts for Tibor Varga in Hungary and the Liszt Academy in Budapest.
This year’s jury comprised Pavel Vernikov (President of the Jury), Elisa Citterio, Aleksey Igudesman, Min Lee, Ruta Lipinaityte, Jacobs Soelberg, Svetlana Makarova, and Eduard Wulfson.
