Vietnam is set to become a centre of contemporary sound this November as the 4th International Asia–Europe New Music Festival opens across Hanoi and Phu Tho from November 27 – December 1, 2025.

Nearly 300 artists, composers, and delegates will join the celebration — a gathering that strengthens Vietnam’s position as one of the region’s most ambitious platforms for new music and cultural exchange.

Held at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the festival’s opening night promises a grand start with a symphonic concert performed by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. Since its debut in 2014, the festival has grown into a signature event for Vietnam, attracting more than 200 musicians from over 40 countries in previous editions. This year’s expanded lineup raises the bar once again.

According to Nguyen Duc Trinh, President of the Vietnam Musicians’ Association, the festival has become “a prestigious highlight of Vietnam’s professional music scene.” Over the five-day programme, audiences will see performances, masterclasses, composer exchanges, and new works spanning classical, contemporary and experimental formats.

More than 30 international artists will participate — including musicians from Russia, Tatarstan, Kazakhstan, Germany, Japan, China, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and beyond. Vietnam alone will field over 220 performers from major orchestras, conservatories, and creative institutions nationwide.

One of the most anticipated elements this year is the introduction of new compositions about Vietnam written by international composers, reflecting growing global interest in the country’s cultural voice and musical identity.

🎻 Festival Highlights

Nov 27 — Opening Symphonic Concert, Vietnam National Academy of Music

Nov 28 — International Chamber Music Concert

Nov 29 — Two chamber concerts, including works by young Vietnamese composers and a performance from the Moscow Contemporary Chamber Orchestra

Nov 30 — Music & culture exchange in Phu Tho, featuring the Moscow orchestra with the Hoa Binh ethnic art troupe

Dec 1 — Closing symphonic performance

Alongside the concerts, students will have rare access to masterclasses led by international experts, covering orchestral conducting, fusion of Eastern & Western instrumentation, and advanced chamber performance practice.

As Vietnam prepares to open the doors of sound to the world, this festival arrives not just as a showcase — but as an invitation to deeper musical relationships across continents.
